WSOF plans to recognize amateur MMA fighter and recent “American Ninja Warrior” contestant Pavel Fesyuk of Rochester for his unselfish act of heroism during this weekend’s WSOF35 at Turning Stone
NEW YORK (March 14, 2017) – As Turning Stone prepares for its second electrifying nationally-televised MMA event, World Series of Fighting (WSOF), one of the top MMA organizations in the country, is preparing to honor a local hero and amateur MMA fighter, Pavel Fesyuk from Rochester, NY. A former contestant on NBC’s popular show “American Ninja Warrior,” Fesyuk is being recognized for his unselfish act of heroism after he saved a choking man on a busy street in Rochester this past January.
While driving between clients for his work with Town and Country Pest Solutions, Feysuk noticed a man in distress and hunched over near his car while driving through Rochester. At the next red light, Fesyuk parked his car and approached the man and realized he was choking. With no hesitation, Fesyuk began trying to help anyway he could, eventually administering the Heimlich maneuver, clearing the man’s airway. The entire incredible incident was captured on a dash cam from Fesyuk’s work truck.
Fesyuk is no stranger to making quick decisions after being featured on Seasons 7 and 8 of American Ninja Warrior. His incredible speed, strength and swift instincts allowed him to complete the grueling course during Season 7 of the show. He’s also an amateur MMA fighter (1-0) who uses his MMA training as a way to further his Ninja Warrior skillset.
WHEC10’s Story and Pavel Feysuk Interview
During WSOF35, a stacked action-packed event on Saturday night at Turning Stone with three title fights, Fesyuk will be presented with a proclamation from WSOF and New York Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara during preliminary action.
Fesyuk is incredibly excited to be a part of the event and is particularly interested in watching fellow Russian Bekbulat Magomedov fight Donavon Frelow for the vacated Bantamweight belt. “I’m very humbled by WSOF for this opportunity and consider it a great privilege to cheer on my fellow countrymen as the go to battle in the Decagon,” Fesyuk said.
Nationally televised on NBC Sports Network (NBCSN), the main event features Blagoy Ivanov (14-1), the current defending heavyweight title holder, taking on Shawn “Savage” Johnson (19-7), promising to be an electric battle, as Ivanov seeks to protect the title he’s held for nearly two years by fending off several heavy hitters, including Smealinho Rama and Josh Copeland. Before the heavyweights meet inside the Decagon, the featherweight title will be up for grabs between Lance Palmer (11-2) and Andre Harrison (15-0) and the recently vacated bantamweight belt will be taken by either Donovan Frelow (6-1) or Bekbulat Magomedov (17-1), replacing an injured Timur Valiev.
